Let Me Hear Your Body Talk
Cats: Adoption|I got my yearly physical today, only it wasn’t just preventative. It’s required for the adoption home study. You see, any jerk can get some girl pregnant and suddenly the state will stalwartly defend his & her rights to parent the child (I know this is harsh, and there are certain exceptions–but hey, this is my rant). Meanwhile a married couple has to prove they are not only willing to have and raise a child, but also physically healthy, financially & mentally stable, and have a good extended family that will assist the adoptive parents with raising the child (all things biological parents don’t need to do).
I had to get a TB test. Heaven forbid a crack baby gets adopted by a father who’s been exposed to tuberculosis sometime in his life, but if the father’s on crack, as long as he doesn’t get caught he can father as many kids as he’s able.
Our social worker told us to consider all this paperwork, etc. as our ‘labor’. I can deal with that–and I understand that ultimately God has just the right baby for us to adopt, and that’s why He hasn’t let us get pregnant. But even in the midst of acknowledging God’s sovereignty & understanding He’s got a plan for our family…some part of me keeps screaming about the unfairness of it all.

Adopting parents are put through the wringer. Sorry, man.
I hope your family grows as fast as it can!
