Here’s the list of Oscar nominees, underlining my predictions for each. Note that I haven’t seen many of these films (I’m waiting for the Academy to mail me my screeners ;-) ); I will indicate the ones I have seen by putting them in italics. I wanted to get these predictions out ASAP because otherwise I’ll just forget (like last year). Plus, I have a semi-annual routine of having the first predictions in the blogosphere. Besides, you don’t really need to see all the films to know who’ll probably win. I will update this post as needed, as I see more of the films.

I’m disappointed that Sweeney Todd didn’t get more nominations, and I’ll admit I forgot all about early Oscar favorite Michael Clayton, which may be a spoiler for my predictions. I still want Johnny Depp & P. S. Hoffman to win, but I think this will once again be D. Day-Lewis’ year for best actor, and out of the respect for his performance, “There Will Be Blood” will sweep as much as possible.

My personal favorite would be for the Coen brothers to get the sweep (again, as much as possible), but since they have no best actor or actress nominees, the momentum of the film based on “Oil!” will get the majority of the awards. But we’ll all see on February 24th, won’t we?
