I’ve done many things to try to monetize this blog over the years. I’ve tried sponsorships, ads, and PayPal donations. The only thing that’s ever gotten anywhere close to a check is Amazon ads. Everyone shops at Amazon.com eventually, and once in a blue moon, they have gotten to Amazon via a link on my site, netting me a little referral fee.

What do I need money for?

Number one, to break even on my website domain & hosting server fees. I’ll even break it down some for you. Just $3 a month would make a significant dent in my modest bills; $4 per month would pretty much cover costs for my site hosting and all my domain names that I own (I have about four domains currently, with more to come if the ‘fever’ hits me). It’s not much, but after absorbing the costs for a few years now, I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth it.

Second, I wouldn’t mind a little money for my trouble. I know that I would spend more time writing for my blog if I knew it wasn’t just a way for me to rant or share parts of my life with interested readers. I have some creative writing ideas, as well as some graphic design, audio, and video concepts that I would like to put up here. This content would be more likely to make the leap from imagination to reality if I was already making a little, thus had the potential to make a little more with more or different content.

What can my readers do?

For starters, keep coming back like you are. Just knowing I have people reading is a big encouragement.
Join the discussion. Leaving comments makes things more interesting for me & your fellow readers. See the ‘divisive’ post for a great recent example. That kind of dialogue is what I’m looking for; Metamorphilia.com is not an echo chamber…or at least, it shouldn’t be.
Use the Amazon search box on the right sidebar. The top one is my own wish list, mainly for family & friends; use only if you’re looking to buy a present for me. (You’d be surprised how often this actually happens.) The one below my blogroll is a fully-functional, all-inclusive Amazon.com search feature. If you use this box every time you plan on buying something from Amazon.com, I get a little referral fee that will truly make my day. It won’t cost you any more than what you would normally spend at Amazon, and you help support current and future content on this website. Plus I think these search boxes are quite unobtrusive (in a good way), so they shouldn’t detract from the experience of those readers who are not interested in shopping at Amazon or helping me out with expenses.

I thank everyone for their readership of Random Acts of Mind through the years, and I thank you all in advance for helping out during your regular online shopping. You’re my heroes. I welcome any discussion on this topic in the comments section, as always. Tell me what you think, or where I should stick it, or give me other ideas for site monetization (no spam, of course).
